Greatest action/adventure film of all time. - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Indy is the greatest action/adventure guy to come along in a long time. Raiders is the beginning of the trilogy and what a way to start the series of. The whole character is great, and not only the character by the story itself. The film goes down as an instant classic.

Raiders set the standard - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Probably the best overall movie yet. Strong suspense, action, special effects and fun! Non-stop action is often noted but this movie comes through... no chance to get popcorn during the movie - you don't want to miss a second.

Indiana jones is a great charecter - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders of the Losta Ark is one of the greatest movies of all time. What's great about this movie and all the Indiana Jones movies, is that Indiana is a hero who always seems to be in a little over his head and is always falling a little short of his fortune and glory which we can all relate to. Often imitated but never duplicated Indiana Jones the great american adventurer.

A classic - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders Of The Lost Ark was the first movie in the Indiana Jones trilogy. All three of the movies are exciting from start to finish. Harrison Ford is an excellent actor, Indiana Jones or his role as Han Solo are his best characters ever. The story is great, I love how the Indiana Jones movies have these great stories with historical(religious) references. It's so hard for me to choose a favorite, but I would probably say its this one. If you want a good movie, see Raiders Of The Lost Ark, you will love it.

The greatest action film! - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Harrison Ford and Sean Connery was one of my most memorable team-ups ever. Sean Connery is perfect for Indy's long lost father. The film has the best storyline of the three starting off as a flashback of when Indy was young and still living with his father. It shows his first great finding but failed attempt to recover an old crucifix from a group of henchmen. It also shows his development of his fear of snakes. It picks up two years after the second film in 1938 and he finally recovers the crucifix which he had failed to get when he was young. The story goes off into the secret of the Holy Grail, the cup which Jesus drank from on the last supper and caught his blood from the crucifiction. Being driven from the promise of eternal life to who drank from it, Indy and the Nazis again race to see who finds the religous artifact. I think this is the best of the film because it goes more in depth to Indy's personality with his father as well to be there to motivate him to race against the evil world power at the time. The acting, special-effects, and Spielberg's directing are also even better than the first film's. This film was under-rated and deserves more credit than even the first film. (The first film was put on AFI's Top 100 Greatest Films of 20th Century) Buy the Trilogy on DVD!

One of the greratest adventure movies - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

This is an awsome adventure mmovie that can be watched over and over for decades and decades. Harrison ford made the movie worth watching and it wouldn't be the smae without him.

Classic is still awesome entertainment. - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

There is no doubt in my mind that Indiana Jones is the most purely enjoyable (and consequently, my favorite) movie series in the history of cinema. And the one start it all was Raiders of the Lost Ark, a fast-paced adventure packed with one death-defying cliff-hanger situation after another. To this day, Raiders remains one of the best action movies, holding up better than all of today's rapid-cut, MTV-style "thrill rides." Raiders relied on no CGI, no flashy editing, just pure, exhilarating filmmaking and storytelling, a combo of its kind that has only been surpassed by its second sequel, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Harrison Ford stars as Jones, an archaeologist who dresses in a brown coat and fedora, armed with a revolver and beretta, and a lion-taming whip. A delightful opening involving elaborate booby traps informs us he's used to these adventures (especially his even closer brushes with death in Temple of Doom, which was a prequel). When he returns to the states from his latest "excavation," he's informed by the military that the Nazis are after the Ark of the Covenant, an artifact that could possess the power to make the Nazis an invincible army. So Jones sets out to retrieve the ark first, in what will prove to be one of his greatest adventures. There's probably little doubt that Raiders is the fan/critical favorite of the trilogy, but there are a few things that I actually have to gripe about, blasphemous as it may be. For one, even though the story is excellent, it's not without its holes. In the opening scenes, Indy's got a few treacherous porters with him on his trek, even though the site he's searching for is a mere walking distance from the plane he arrived on. A tad more bothersome is Indy's plan to hijack the plane that would transport the ark, it's extremely unlikely the Nazis would place the ark on board without noticing him or Marion. The action sequences are still superb, though a couple of the early fights (the bar brawl and the street chase), while a lot of fun, aren't quite as adrenaline-pumping as they could be. The street chase is more playful than exciting, especially when you consider the involvement of a Nazi monkey (which I've never found very amusing in the first place, but the monkey doesn't seem to have any detractors). In fact, I'd argue that both Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade overall boast more blistering action. As bitchy as I may sound, I'm not trying to harp on Raiders, at least not too much. After all, the movie features the famous (and deservedly so) truck chase, one of the most unbelievably thrilling and exhilarating action setpieces I've ever seen (and given an extra boost by John Williams' catchy, rousing score, probably his best work to date). To this day, even with the recent chase scenes in The Matrix Reloaded and Terminator 3, this sequence has yet to be surpassed (it's about on par with the tank chase in Last Crusade). Other standout action sequences include the pit of snakes and Jones' mano-a-mano battle with the giant Nazi mechanic. The finale takes the film dangerously close to the horror genre, climaxing things with a truly memorable (and quite frightening) light show for the ages. Every Indiana Jones film has a scene that scarred me as a kid and I think every one who's seen Raiders knows what I'm referring to (as well as its sequels). Harrison Ford is perfect as Jones, embodying a hero that's charismatic and charming beyond words, and yet still entirely human and believable. The supporting cast isn't as up to par: Paul Freeman is a bit too effeminate as Belloq and not really a villain worthy of Jones (Wolf Kahler's Colonel Dietrich is a better match), Karen Allen is somewhat annoying, but there are an equal share in gems, particularly Denholm Elliot as Marcus Brody and John Rhys-Davies as Sallah (The Last Crusade wisely gave these actors/characters more screen time). Raiders of the Lost Ark was revolutionary cinema, paving way for summer blockbusters that would attempt for the same winning mix of thrills and humor. Only its sequels matched and/or surpassed it, but some have actually come close (The Mummy). If you haven't seen Raiders yet, put it on the top of your list.

"raiders of the lost ark" hits platinum! - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

"Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of The Lost Ark" is an indredible and Oscar-worthy film that has story, plot, character, action, and drama! Its also funny and intriguing and a movie that nobody should miss. Go Indiana Jones! Go rock the whole world!

One of my favorite movies - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders of the Lost Ark is a great movie. Although the plot isn't great the acting is very good and it has one exiting action scene after another and there are few long breaks from the action.

A true masterpiece of adventure - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

This Indiana Jones adventure is a true masterpiece that you won't forget. There is an element that this movie has that makes you enjoy the movie. I like how humor and danger mix in a visually stunning movie. The acting is terrific and the storyline is logical and great. This is absolutly the best adventure movie ever and I have not seen a movie yet that matches the adventure genre like this does. I just like how Jones is able to get himself out of bad situations and the premises and location of the film. Buy it on DVD!

Indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

A classic movie that made Harrison Ford a star!!! It is the best adventure story movie of all time!!!! It's simpley the best. Indy must discover the Ark before the Nazis do. He has to go through a lot of traps, snakes, and a lot of crap. He explores the darkest jungles of South America to Cario. The movie has one of the best team-ups!!! Steven Spielburge and George Lucas!!!! I laughed so hard when that man with the swords does cool moves, and Indy just shoot him!!! I really recommend this film, and the visuals were good at it's time, and it's one of the movies you have to see. No one could do a better job as Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones or as Han Solo in STAR WARS. Out of 5 stars, it's a 4.5!!! Best Adventure movie I've seen...

Move over star wars - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

You can't say enough about this movie. It's funny, action packed, scary. A bit of everyting for just about everyone. I love the fact that Indiana Jones isn't some overbound muscle head. The fact that they chose to make him an archeologist instead was truly brilliant. Good thing they picked Harrison Ford for this movie. If Tom Selleck hadn't been shooting Magnum P.I. we would know Indiana Jones as a man with a really ugly mustache. (Sorry Tom Magnum PI rocks) Harrison gives Indy that every man feel. He's intelligent and tough, yet extremely vunerable at times. He never mows the enemy down, but rather has to use his intelect to get him out of a fix.

Whip & humor crack equally as well - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

How many times have I watched this film? I've lost count. From the second the movie starts running, it captivates you, & you run with Indiana Jones through the cave & the various other places he runs. As he encounters mishap after mishap & comes out alive, you find yourself cheering for him not as an outsider but as someone standing right next to him. The film magically comes alive. This unique quality comes from the camera shots, the phenonmenual acting, & something else that I can't quite place my finger on. There's something classic here about this Spielberg & Lucas powerhouse production. Karen Allen's portrayal of the breathtakingly beautiful Marion deserves as much recognition as Harrison Ford's portrayal of Indiana Jones, the reluctant hero who always gets more than what he bargained for. At first, it seemed odd that Indiana Jones would be afraid of snakes ("Why did it have to be snakes?"), considering his worldly journeys in pursuit of treasure. Then, I began to understand why they would build a flaw like that in Jones: To make him the reluctant hero who is decidedly more human than the ones who try to kill him would give him credit for. Despite the fact that he hates snakes & the fact that Marion is barefoot in a snake-filled cavern, he makes it out alive & well without so much as a bite. He rescues the beautiful barefoot Marion as well. We love him for his feats in the face of tremendous danger. Ford has a gift for cracking humor equally well as his whip. He creates the illusion of making it all look easier than it actually is. Many other films have tried to combine humor & action, but they lag in places whereas the humor & action in Raiders of the Lost Ark flows effortlessly. George Lucas knew what he was doing when he gave Harrison Ford this role. After all, he worked with Ford extensively as the cocky pilot in the brillant & wildly successful Star Wars saga. Thank God Ford did not pursue carpentry over acting, which is what he was originally told to do after initially disappointing results on film. Perserverance pays off, & Ford is a shining example of this. He's my shining star. This is the one role that Karen Allen will always be remembered for, no matter what else she does. She's the immortal Marion in the immortal classic Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Paves the way for lara croft and others. - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Here it is, February of 2005 and I had yet to see Raiders Of The Lost Ark (or the other 2 in the trilogy for that matter). For some reason, it did not appeal to me. I did not get into movies until the early '90s and never got around to seeing it. However, upon urging of my friend I decided to rent it. I have to give credit where credit is due. Indiana Jones paves the way for the Tomb Raiders and other various movies of the same type. Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is a doctor in archeology who teaches at a college and in his spare time, finds rare artifacts and saves the world from Nazis. In this case, he is trying to find the Ark Of The Covenant, which at one time held the original Ten Commandments that Moses chiseled into the stone tablets. The Nazis, along with help from Jones' arch rival Rene Belloq, are trying to find the Ark for their own purposes. Along the way, Indiana meets up with a woman named Marion (Karen Allen), who he jilted in the past, which is not really explained in this movie but they end up helping each other in the search for the Ark. The special effects and the action in Raiders Of The Lost Ark are exceptional, considering this was made in 1981. It set the bar reasonably high for action/adventure movies, even to this day as many movies are still compared to the Indiana Jones trilogy. It holds up well, considering most of the movies from the early 80's are very dated and hard to watch anymore.

The best movie ever! - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders of the Lost Ark is an amazing movie. Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones so well it was like you are in the movie. The movie was so well that you will see it over and over.

Watch it over and over - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

I saw some people say that this movie was horrible. Those people are the kind of white trash people that want all violence and no plot. This is one of my favorite movies of all time. And for the people that thought this movie stunk, the almanac rated this movie 60th greatest movie of all time.

What everyone needs - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Three of the greatest symbols of American cinema history teamed up to make one of the best movies of its or any other time period. Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford came out with Raiders of the Lost Ark in the summer of '81. The story wasn't afraid to go all-out, and succeeded in every aspect. Here's the scenario: Indiana Jones is an archaeologist who is asked to retrieve the coveted Lost Ark, a device so powerful, whoever controls it controls the world. The twist is, he has to get it before Hitler and those damn Nazis do. Indiana swings from ropes, battles sword-wielding warrior-guys, and has a run-in with a rather large rolling boulder, among other daring shots. This is without a doubt a film classic and essential for any real film lover to watch.

Indy cover your heart!!!!! - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

I love this movie so much that it has inspired me to get a tattoo of Harrison Ford as Indiana, and hopefully i can get it signed by the man himself. This is the greatest movie ever made! A great story, great actors, great action, nothing else could be added to this movie to make it any better. I almost want to go buy a leather jacket, and whip just to go and have adventures around the world. And you know you want to too.

Still a great movie - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

I loved this movie when I first saw it and I still do to day. I think this is Ford's best movie. Humor, action, great story, superb acting, good length, flows perfectly, wonderful musical theme, timeless.

Moves like a rollercoaster - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders of the Lost Ark believe it or not is my second favorite of the Indiana Jones trilogy (soon to be quadrilogy). The Last Crusade is my first, and I don't even like Temple of Doom. It's a very entertaining movie, with a lot of good effects. Recommended for any action movie lover.

Raiders of the lost ark - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

This amazing movie about Indiana Jones, a 1930's archaeology professor who explores the world looking for artifacts and relics to sell to the the museum. In Raiders, Indiana (played by Harrison Ford) must help the Nazis find, but not keep the Biblical Ark of the Covenent.

The man with the whip - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Raiders of the Lost Ark was an instant classic when it hit the screen, much like Lord of the Rings this trilogy Jones is one of the best ones out there.

Spielberg's beggining to an extroadonary trilogy.. - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Steven Spielberg's first Indiana Jones movie is great, fun, well thought out, and intense. An action/adventure that actually got really good ratings for once is now on the Special-Edition Trilogy DVD. Harrison Ford is the perfect pick for Indiana Jones. No one else could've done it better than Ford. The special-effects are brilliant for an early 80's film. Of course the enemies are the same as about half of Spielberg's movies (the Nazis) and Jones gets the girl in the end. (What ever happened to her?) The first in the trilogy is really good and action-packed for the action movie lovers out there. But it also has a good storyline and character-devolpment (such as Indy facing his fear of snakes) and the girl being one of his former acquaintences often argues with him. Buy the Trilogy on DVD and witness some of Spielberg's brilliant directing and George Lucas' brilliant producing.

All time favorite! - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

Best movie ever made, hands down! Only Star Wars: A New Hope can compare for its steadfastness. Peter Jackson should take note here on how to direct a movie, not the piece of crap Return of the King.

Oscar orthy - Raiders of the Lost Ark Reviews

AWSOME movie it was my favorite one it had everything you would want in a movie, action, comedy and it had some comedy. Go see it.
